HOW DOES A PERSON READ THE SMART CHART?
Our Smart Charts provide a current view of the market potential of included IP Assets. For each IP Asset, the viewer can visually see its market potential. Can a company be built around its potential? Is the market opportunity large enough or niche-enough to support a new company?
Where along the R&D development is the IP Asset? It is important to note that each IP should not be compared relative to each other given that each opportunity is unique. The viewer, however, can easily
understand the current "market opportunity" for a specific IP, i.e. at least a good guessimate of its marketability, size of market and risk factors.
Interpreting The Smart Chart:
Finding IP Name: You must move your cursor over a circle to view IP Name
Size of Circles: The larger the circle, the bigger the opportunity of potential sustainable annual market revenue from this IP. The smallest circle is $0 to $10M in yearly sales; the medium circle is $10M to $50M and the largest circle is >$50M.
Color of Circles: The color of the IP represents the "Investor Readiness" potential for turning the IP into a product or service. Like a stoplight:
GREEN means "IP has low technology risks, problem identified and market solution is viable; likely freedom to operate; IP has clear path to become a product/service and market solution with sufficient effort, capital and talent and, should attract investors at the appropriate time";
YELLOW means "IP is not Green for one or more 'path to marketability' obstacles that can definitely be overcome by the right owner, time, capital and/or effort. Market solution identified, yet one or more IP, technical or market risks exist that need to be overcome to give investors the risk/return comfort required to make an investment;" and
RED means "IP has significant R&D or market competition hurdles or patent complexities, but these issues can be overcome by the right company, investor and resources. There is a 'path to marketability' and if problem(s) can be solved, the IP could provide investors with sufficient risk/return rewards required to make an investment."
BEST MARKET EXECUTION (THE Y AXIS):
Simply is the best market execution for this IP as a start-up spinout, or a pure licensing deal with a large company for them to incorporate the IP into current products, or possibly either a start-up or license play. For example, positioning the circle closer to either the Start-Up or Licensing end displays a higher probability of a start-up or License.
THE CURRENT DEVELOPMENT STAGE (THE X AXIS):
Using the guidelines from Idea Stage to Market Ready below, please select the most appropriate current development stage for the IP. Please note: If the IP is for the life sciences/biomed industry, please use the Life Sciences/BioMed stages below.
Currently, how advanced is the IP from idea stage, and what is the IPs best market execution strategy?
The positioning of the Circle reflects its relative IDEA TO MARKET READY position based on the following standards:
For All IP, except Life Sciences/BioMed IP:
For Life Sciences/BioMed IP Only:
